Aspiring young defender Hayden Morton is looking forward to the new NSW Premier League season ahead as his club the Sutherland Sharks kick off the year with a home clash at Seymour Shaw Park against APIA Leichhardt Tigers this Saturday evening.
The 18-year-old had a stellar 2011 NSW Premier League season where he played in almost every Sharks match becoming a pivotal member in the Sutherland backline before being snapped up by the Central Coast Mariners’ National Youth League side.
Asked what his thoughts were on the NSW Premier League, the former Australian Under 17 international stated to Football NSW.
“The NSW Premier League means a lot to me and it has given me an opportunity to play the game I love.
“It has given me so much and has played a key role in my development.
“Playing alongside the likes of my club captain George Souris who was a former NSL Championship winner and being coached by a former NSL Premiership winning defender Robbie Stanton, both have really helped my game for the better.”
With the Shire based squad hoping to challenge for a finals series finish in 2012, Morton has high hopes of the up and coming season.
“I am really anticipating another big year for the club and myself as well.
“I was happy with how last year went so I want to make sure I continue my development and my performances for the club.
“I believe I improved during my time with the Mariners in the National Youth League and I want to carry that form into the NSW Premier League.”
